Welcome to the first edition of HALAFA Hui!
Dear Brothers and Sisters –
It is with great pleasure that we present our first Council 43 electronic newsletter! In the months leading up to the start of our leadership, we outlined a plan on how to best reach the membership. This included a new Hawaiian LEC FaceBook page, developing a combined website and also monthly newsletters.
After 2 years of paper newsletters, we knew that transitioning to an electronic means was important. Being innovative and also current with technology required a good amount of time because we needed to find the right vehicle. By now you should have received the MEC’s quarterly newsletter! Our Council may contribute to the MEC newsletters, but will maintain our own newsletter the other 8 months of each year.
We hope that you will have a chance to review the information and news that we send to you.
We will continue to provide the information that you need so that you can continue to be the best Flight Attendants in Hawai'i, North America and the world.
Stronger Together, Better Together,
Jaci-Ann and Kahea

AFA Breast Cancer Awareness Pins Coming Soon!
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. AFA representatives will be handing out a limited number of special AFA pins in the inflight lounge during the first week of October. Please join us as we show our support for this important cause by wearing this pin throughout the month of October.
9/11 - Hawaiian Flight Attendants United in Remembrance
Our friends at United Airlines Council 14 invited us to join them at the Mayor's Annual Remembrance Walk. This somber event observed the 15th anniversary of 9/11 as hundreds of first responders and civilians walked in the procession ending at Honolulu Hale. Nine people with Hawai'i ties died in the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
The Importance of Situational Awareness
The safety of our Flight Attendants is paramount to ensuring the health and well being of our group. Please continue to help care for others while at work and on layovers. Situational awareness is important and your malama is appreciated.
EAP - Members Helping Members
From time to time, we all experience something that may impact us at work. Please consider reaching out to the EAP so we can assist you with resources. Please also know that our Professional Standards group can help you resolve issues and concerns you may have with another employee. There are options for us to work out solutions together rather than writing each other up or turning to management.
The Flight Attendant Drug and Alcohol Program (FADAP) is available to all Flight Attendants, no matter what status you currently hold -- active, furloughed, or even if you are on a leave status. FADAP is a substance abuse prevention program, created and promoted for and by the Flight Attendant profession and funded by the FAA. This year the Hawaiian Airlines ‘Ohana was well represented at the 6th Annual FADAP Conference held in Baltimore, MD (Seated left to right: Gail Kim Moe (in-flight manager), Kawehi Apo, & Tracy Thompson. Standing left to right: Craig Iwasaki, Valerie Halili, Alvin Antonio (grievance), Christopher Thompson, Raymond Wan (ASHS), Ka’ula Kamahele, Patrick Smith, and Kahea Ching.)
