Association of Flight Attendants-CWA

Hi Everyone,

We (John, Kaipo and Katie) had a call with Jeff Staton (Director of Inflight), Tonya Ward (Contract Administrator) and Paul Myers (Vice President of Safety and Security. We talked about a variety of issues and we wanted to update you on the information that we learned.

Everyone, please update your Base Vacancy Standing Bid Preference Form on CrewNet. Make sure to put all of your preferences there. If it is your choice to transfer to IAD please indicate that in your Standing Bid Form.

  • For our commuters - Be proactive if you have problems getting to base because of cancelled flights. Make sure you’re diligent in trying to get to base and not waiting until the last minute, but if you have trouble with flights cancelling call the Inflight 24/7 On Call Number (877-290-2151) and let them know the situation, they will help you navigate the situation.
  • Paul Myers has ordered thermometers for our aircrafts for crews. They have not come in yet but when they do, they will be loaded on aircrafts.
  • Ground Ops is doing their best to source hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes and will load them on the aircrafts when they are available. For now, they are stocking extra soap.
  • If you are worried about flying because you are in a vulnerable population or you live with/care for those in vulnerable populations please call the Inflight On Call Number (877-290-2151) to discuss taking some form of paid or unpaid time off. Inflight is prepared to work through these issues with our Flight Attendants.
  • Make sure to keep a copy of the letter with you that we were sent by Jeff Crippen on March 23rd indicating that we are part of the U.S. Critical Infrastructure. Having it on your mobile phone is adequate, you do not need to print it. Copies of the letter will be printed and put on the aircrafts for crewmembers.
  • Tyler Strathe, OAI’s Director of Travel, has been working with OAI’s Safety Department to verify that every hotel and ground transportation service we use have some kind of sanitization and cleaning process that is done before crews arrive. He has gotten feedback so far but welcome reports from flight attendants on the line about what is really happening. Please send feedback to travel@oai.aero and please let your Hotel Committee know as well hotel@afaomni.org

AFA EAP is also available to you in this time, they can be reached at eap@afaomni.org or 800-424-2406.

Thank you for your continued support. We continue to be in discussion with the company about the issues around the voluntary and involuntary furlough.

In solidarity,

John Reise, MEC President
