The MEC recently learned that a Flight Attendant had their AFA pride pin and bag tag confiscated by customs/immigration officials at the Kuwait Airport. We strongly stand with our LGBTQ+ siblings and want you to know that your AFA International officers requested a meeting with Omni and get an account of what Omni is doing to ensure our safety onboard and abroad. In the meantime, for safety reasons, we advise that you remove any “pride” related items from your person or luggage that could trigger a response from Kuwait Airport officials while going through the Kuwait Airport (you can wear your standard AFA pin instead).
We are also providing a link to the State Department’s website about safety concerns to be aware of regarding being an LGBTQ+ traveler in Kuwait (click on the "Local Laws and Special Circumstances" tab): https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/International-Travel-Country-Information-Pages/Kuwait.html
If you have any questions or if you experience any difficulties at an airport, please email the MEC directly at admin@afaomni.org. We will be in touch soon with an update.
In Solidarity,
Tricia Huber, MEC/LEC President president@afaomni.org
