Association of Flight Attendants-CWA

April 10, 2024

Dear Flight Attendants:

The information in this email is a summary of the bid info available on the company and AFA websites.

If you are transferring bases, please remember your bids have been deleted from Navblue PBS and you will have to import a previous bid or create a new one. If you need help, please contact one of us.

Seniority lists will be updated on the 15th, so if you are unsure whether to submit a pre-bid or not, relying on April's results is the best option. If you choose not to pre-bid or to wait until the 15th to submit your bid, use the Category Seniority information as the most accurate number for bidding. Please read the entire newsletter and if you still have questions, feel free to contact one of us.

Part-Time lines are available in DFW, and MIA. ZTL lines are available in DFW. For more information regarding these types of lines please see details below.

If you need guidance during the Pre Bid process, don't forget to access the PBS Checklist

Important notes

  • It is important that we remind you to please clear the Browsing History and Cachè on your personal device. Make sure to do this once every month before you work on PBS, otherwise, the program might not work properly. You can reply to this message if you would like to provide feedback regarding this matter.
  • Whether you are using the crew room computer, any company-provided device or a personal device we recommend using Chrome as PBS seems to work better on this browser.
  • May contractual month starts on May 1st and ends on May 31st. This information can always be found on the INFO Tab in Navblue and  the first page of the bid packet.
  • View the "bidding seniority" in Navblue's Info Tab under Category Seniority. This information is updated on the 15th and is the most accurate for bidding purposes.

  • May's credit windows are as follow:

  • Vacation extensions - If you are pre-bidding, we recommend you submit vacation extensions after April 15th at noon CST, before April 20th at noon CST.  A confirmation number will not be provided when the FA is just submitting vacation extensions, they will be listed in bold. Please save a screenshot of the "Your bid has been submitted successfully" message that you will receive.
  • Always save the pre-bid confirmation number window, this includes the confirmation number and awards requested. If you DO NOT receive a confirmation number when submitting a pre-bid, please contact us.
  • Part-Time Lines are available for May. There are 10 available in DFW, 0 available in ORD, 10 available in MIA, and 0 available in PHX.
  • Zero Time Lines (ZTL) are available for May. There are 10 available in DFW, 0 available in ORD, 0 available in MIA, and 0 available in PHX.
  • RWO, RBL, and Stand-by lines are offered at all bases.
  • Transition pairings: A pairing awarded in April that goes into the month of May is a Transition Pairing. These pairings may be adjusted due to schedule changes. Please always look at the bid packet to see if your pairing has changed. An adjustment to a transition pairing may change the in-period credit that goes into May.
  • FAs with any kind of pre-planned absence such as SA, P4, PU, and/or scheduled training have to remember that training, home study day, travel days, special assignment, and/or paid/unpaid union days are considered to start at 0000 and end at 2359. This is important due to rest legalities; PBS will not allow awards that leave less than 10 hours of rest before or after any of these pre-planned absences. Keep in mind that all other legalities must also be met. For more information, please refer to the PBS guide on afaeagle.com.
  • FAs transferring bases that have the move days at the end of April, remember that move days are blocked as a pre-planned absence and are NOT considered a day off. They are considered to start at 0000 and end at 2359. Please make sure to bid avoiding any conflict.
  • For FAs with vacation days in May that are awarded a line of pairings (line-holders), days may be prorated according to the chart on our CBA, refer to section 8.

Where do I find the RBL, RWO, and CDO lines?

You can view RBL, RWO, and CDO lines by visiting the PBS link on the Flight Service page on myenvoyair.comUnder Bid, Packets click on your base to view or download. On the first page of the Bid Packets, you will be able to view the standby shifts and within the first pages, you can view the RBL, and RWO lines.

 .

Where do I find the Stand-by lines?

Stand-by lines can't be found in the bid package, because those lines are not pre-built. On the bid package, you will be able to view the stand-by shifts, so you can bid accordingly. Once you are awarded the stand-by shift during pre-bid, you will have to submit a reserve bid after April 15th. In this bid, you will enter your prefer off preferences. If you are awarded stand-by status, but you decide to bid for a line and PBS can award a line, it will, and you will lose your stand-by status. Make sure to enter your bid just for reserve if you do not want that to happen. Contact us if you have any questions.

Where do I find the Part-time lines?

Part-time lines can't be found in the bid package, because those lines are not pre-built. If you pre-bid and hold part-time status, you will have to submit a bid after April 15th. In this bid, you will enter all your preferences for no less than 37:30 hours, and no more than 45:30 hoursIf you are unable to hold pairings worth the minimum value of the part-time line, you will be awarded full-time reserve.
What is ZTL?

Zero Time Lines (ZTL) are an updated version of “Time Off Without Pay” in Section 16 of our contract. You are off for the entire bid month without pay and you can't add any flying to your schedule during that bid month. If a FA has a training event during a month when awarded ZTL, the FA will have to attend training on the scheduled date. For more information please see the MEC E-Newsletter Vol. 4, No. 22 sent on Oct 10, 2019. This month ZTL will be offered in DFW. If you have more questions or concerns, please contact one of your PBS reps.

  1. Go to my bidding (pre-bid site) by clicking on Bidding System Login.
  2. Highlight the option/s you wish to pre-bid for and click the arrow pointing to the right.
  3. Move your preferences, one at a time to the right box.

  6. Click SAVE to submit your pre-bid choices.
  7. Then click CONFIRM to finalize and receive a confirmation number.

What to do if I get a pre-bid award?

  • Once pre-bid results are posted, if you are awarded an RBL or RWO line, you are done with your bid process. These lines are already pre-built and can always be viewed in the bid packets posted on myenvoyair.com. The same applies to ZTL, once awarded you will be removed from the bidding process.
  • If you are awarded Stand-by, you will need to enter a current or default bid by April 20th at noon CST. This bid should not include Start Pairings options. All options should be Start Reserve. If you have a Start Pairings bid before Start Reserve, the logic may award a line (if you can hold it) and you would lose your Stand-by status.
  • If you pre-bid and hold part-time status, you will have to submit a bid after April 15th. In this bid, you will enter all your preferences for no less than 37:30 hours, and no more than 45:30 hoursIf you are unable to hold pairings worth the minimum value of the part-time line, you will be awarded full-time reserve

What to do if I do not get a pre-bid award?

  • If you are not awarded any of your pre-bid choices. Make sure to enter a bid by April 20th at noon CST. This bid should have Start Pairings, Start Reserve, or both groups.

Vacation extension and vacation slide reminder
  • Vacation extensions give those who have vacation time the ability to guarantee up to 4 additional days off adjacent to that vacation time. Each vacation extension day requested reduces the guarantee by 3:45 hours of credit. So, if you request 4 vacation extensions, PBS will only need to find fewer hours of credit to complete your block. For pay purposes that means each vacation extension day reduces the guarantee by 3:45 hours of pay. For example, if the line target is 75 hours and you request 4 vacation extensions, your guarantee now will be 60 hours of credit. Vacation extension request must meet contractual requirements to be approved. VACATION EXTENSIONS ARE ALWAYS PART OF THE GUARANTEED 11 DAYS OFF FOR BOTH LINE HOLDERS AND RESERVE
  • If you have an RBL, CDO, or RWO award for May and have vacation in May or the first week of June, it is important that you keep the following in mind when extending vacation. Your vacation block may be slid up to four days backward or forward to eliminate a conflict on your reserve days. If you wish to slide your vacation, please submit an RF 200 SLID. After sliding your vacation, you may want to extend your vacation, please select to extend on the same RF 200 SLID. The RF should be submitted no earlier than April 15th at noon CT and no later than April 20th at noon CT. When submitting the RF, you have to indicate what type of line you were awarded, if you are sliding or both sliding and extending, and the dates you wish to slide or slide and extend. Submit the RF ONLY if you want to slide or both slide and extend.
  • If you only want to request vacation extensionsplease submit extensions in the "my bidding" page (see instructions below). This applies to all bidders (pre-bidders and non-pre-bidders).
  • Whether you have a pre-bid award or not for May if you have vacation in May or the first week of June, you may request to extend your vacation. If you will ONLY be requesting vacation extension, you have to select your vacation extensions on the "my bidding" page at any time before April 20th at noon CST:
  1. Go to “My Bidding”
  2. Click the Blue Action Bar
  3. Select the days you want to extend around your vacation. Up to 4 days in any combination. Vacation extensions must be attached to the vacation days you are extending.
  4. Click SAVE, then click CONFIRM. We recommend you save the confirmation number.
  5. Vacation extensions that do not meet the guidelines will be completely removed.

Vacation Fly Through

FAs have the option to request to fly through vacation. PBS would be able to award a pairing on the days that fly-through is selected. You may choose fly-through on some or all vacation days. FAs that choose to fly through vacation will not have vacation credit counted towards the line-building credit. For a FA to have fly-through used in their bid, they have to be awarded a line of pairings. If a FA is awarded Reserve, their requested fly-through days will be returned as vacation days and the 11 days off have to be awarded outside of vacation. If fly-through is used, this is how it will be credited towards the block and pay: If your vacation is worth 21hrs and you choose to fly through 3 days, now your vacation credit towards line building is 9 hours less (3 days fly-through x 3 hrs. credit per day). When Pay Comp credits the line, the credit of the pairing that falls over fly-through will be credited above guarantee (see TA information). Please see Vacation Fly-Through guide in PBS Resources.

Line targets - These are the line targets for DFWORD, MIA, and PHX respectively. Remember that the final result may not be exactly this number.
