Newbies & Nutshells + All Members Meeting

October 14, 7:00PM Central

Join your MEC/LEC Officers, Committee Volunteers and Base Representatives for a membership meeting geared towards introducing our newer members to who we are, how the union works and what resources are available. We will also roll this in to an All Members Meeting to catch everyone up and answer any questions.

If anyone has any questions for the committees, please feel free to bring them to the meeting. If you let us know beforehand, we will try to have someone from that committee on the call to help out.

If you have questions pertaining to negotiations, please save those for the separate Negotiation Update Meeting. Your Negotiation Committee meets with the company virtually on October 15, then in person November 6-8th. We will have a meeting at that time to discuss the events.

MEC/LEC Officer is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Rushing to Get To Your Flight - Don't Get Hurt!

Why? Travel should be arranging your flights and layovers with enough time to get from one gate to the next. They should be taking into account things like:

  1. Does FA have to go through customs?
  2. Does FA have to go through security?
  3. Is airport so big that the FA may have to go from one terminal to another?

If you ever have insufficient time to get from one flight to the next, do not kill yourself (or others) running through the airport with that panicked, fearful, anxious look. Not only does it appear unprofessional, it's easy to trip or accidently push someone. If you miss the next part of your flight, travel will book another as they are very aware of the layover times.

Uniform Committee

The Lands' End return policy is 90 days. Any pieces that you have quality issues with, call Lands' End to exchange or return right away!

New uniform pieces are coming out soon. The committee brought up everyone's comments and concerns

so always let your voices be heard. Once the pieces are announced from the company we will comment further. Thanks everyone!

Hotel Committee

Thanks to everyone who writes in about any issues with hotel or transportation. We want to hear if your transportation is late or the driver is rude, or if there is not enough room for luggage. If you miss your flight due to short connections, if you didn't get a lounge or hotel (must be a 16 hour duty day and your wait is over 5 hours). Any issues with your hotel room or where the area the hotel is and you feel unsafe. Did the hotel not have rooms once you went to check in and your crew had to wait to change hotels? Basically anything related to hotel and transportation we want to know. Send an email with date of stay, the hotel name, the city, pictures and a detailed description. hotel@afaomni.org

Grievance Committee

Any time you have a hearing, contact your grievance committee at grievance@afaomni.org. It's always best to have a witness when you are talking to management. Your committee members are trained in knowing what the company can and can't do. For further information on hearings, go to: https://afaomni.org/hearings/

Safety, Health and Security

AFA-CWA Initial Air Safety, Health and Security Training is scheduled for Tuesday, December 3, 2024. To facilitate participation by AFA-CWA members across the United States (including Alaska and Hawaii), the session will begin at 11:00 a.m. and conclude no later than 7:00 p.m. (all times EST).

Initial training provides new Safety Committee representatives with a background of the history and structure of AFA-CWA. Interactive discussions are held regarding specific roles and responsibilities of Committee members as they interact with elected leaders, Committee chairs and line Flight Attendants. The initial training helps new Committee members understand the resources available to them as they work to evaluate, communicate, and resolve safety, health and security issues at their carrier. Training also provides a review of information related to the federal regulations that govern Flight Attendant duties in the aircraft cabin.

If you are interested in this one day virtual training event, please email safetyhealthsecurity@afaomni.org so the sign up form can be sent to you. Remember to always use your personal email for any union events. This is a great intro course - from here you can start getting answers to your FARS, fatigue, security and all those others questions you've been asking about.

Huge thanks to all Flights Attendants that have been turning in ASAP reports for fatigue and for other safety issues. We know you are too tired to do this but you do it in the name of safety and because it will help in the long run. ASAP reports are reviewed by FAA, Omni Safety Department, Inflight Training and your Union Safety Committee. There are no names or identifying factors. This information helps us, the company and FAA identify dangers and see if there are procedures that need to change. Your union also works with an OSHA specialists and other safety experts if we have further questions on anything. Please keep filing those reports. Fill out the basic info - the report looks intimidating but it's not. ASAP is located on the main page of Crewnet.

Disaster Relief Fund

AFA established the Disaster Relief Fund after September 11th to assist members and retirees who have suffered significant damage and/or relocation as a result of a disaster.

Donate to the AFA Disaster Relief Fund and contribute directly to helping a Flight Attendant in need. If you’re in need of assistance, apply to the AFA Disaster Relief Fund here or visit disasterassistance.gov for to review eligibility criteria and apply for FEMA’s Individual and Household Program. AFA EAP is always available at 800-424-2406.

Share the donation link with your fellow flying partners, family, and friends. No matter the amount, every contribution makes a difference. We can’t stop disasters from happening, but we can come together in our union to take care of each other.
